It all began with a paintbrush.

Betsy Erving lives in Seattle, Washington, where she left a career as an investment banker to raise a family and develop her love of painting. A self-taught watercolorist, her work seeks to awaken our elementary sense of wonder through its technical emphasis on fine detail and fanciful themes. The delicate tonal quality of her large format florals endeavor to bring out the extraordinary in what often seems ordinary.

Her lotus series began during COVID and was inspired by the children she teaches. Finding many of her students struggling with isolation, self-doubt, and depression, she teaches these words of wisdom to inspire their confidence and creativity, just as they have her own.

‘Like the lotus, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.’ ~Unknown
